Active Gas Plant On and Off-site Remediation & Reclamation
Region: Eastern Alberta
Client: Apache Canada Ltd.
Industries: Oil & Gas
Services: Environmental Site Assessment (ESA), Remediation, Reclamation
Solstice was retained by Apache to conduct a Phase I and a Phase II ESA on a gas plant in eastern Alberta. The results of the ESA identified benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) and light-end (F1) hydrocarbon levels in excess of applicable soil guidelines both on and off-site. The off-lease impacts covered an area of approximately 1 hectare, and the depth of impacts ranged from 1.5 to 9 m below ground surface. Impacted soil was excavated and successfully remediated within the temporary workspace associated with the facility using soil amendments and twister units. In total, ~45,000 m3 of impacted soil was remediated and returned to the excavation, and 26,000 m3 of clean overburden was managed and replaced. The site was recontoured and reclaimed with the use of silt fencing and tackifiers to assist with erosion control.
