Water Wells & Groundwater Supply

Our professionals work with the drillers on pump tests that may be required as part of the aquifer evaluation. Collection and analysis of groundwater samples for drinking water, irrigation, livestock watering or for other purposes, is also undertaken to determine if the groundwater is suitable for its intended use.

The efficient retrieval of groundwater through effective water well design will help you make the best of your investment into water security for your business or home. A well designed well can result in lower energy and maintenance costs and provide peace of mind in having a safe and reliable water source.

Working with water well drillers, Solstice may determine sustainable water supply from a well including:

  • Short-term yield

  • Adverse effects on surrounding users

  • Water Quality

Subsurface Investigations

Although contamination below the ground cannot be seen, it may still have consequences. This is why Solstice provides site investigation services to determine whether contamination may be present. Typical sources of contamination include gas stations and landfills, but any industrial source that handles toxic chemicals may be a source.

We conduct subsurface environmental investigations involving soil sample collection, installation and sampling of groundwater monitoring wells and remediation design. We have extensive knowledge of Alberta Environments Tier 1 and Tier 2 standards and their Petroleum Management Guidelines for storage tank sites. Our expertise will help you work towards and attain environmental compliance.

Monitoring of soil and groundwater below the ground surface from contaminants from:

  • Service stations

  • Landfills

  • Dry Cleaners

  • Gas Plants

  • Sewage & Manure Lagoon

  • Industrial use (oils, metals, herbicides, pesticides, toxic chemicals)

  • Providing recommendations on remedial systems suited to contaminant type.

Septic Fields

Installing test pits to collect soil for grain size, structure determination and shallow water table to determine:

  • Loading Rate

  • Septic Field size

Geothermal Systems

Geothermal systems require a groundwater source for heat exchange. Knowledge of the amount of water that can be obtained from geothermal well supplies is necessary for proper design. Solstice can provide analysis of:

  • Aquifer capability

  • Well design

  • Regulatory approvals

Dewatering

Extensive pumping from excavations can lead to flooded basements. Through our dewatering investigation, we evaluate the ground and provide recommendations on a number of wells and placements needed. These studies are based on drilling and pump tests. We undertake analysis of the permeability of the ground to determine water flow through the ground.
